Barbora Svarcova (Czech republic) Psycho-analyza, 2:59
I always imagined a film as a queue of images, each waiting for their moment. Not as a timeline, but more as a spatial installation, saved in the mind, where one can always recall those moments gone by, if needed. As material I chose one of the most well-known or „classical“ movies of all times: Hitchcock's Psycho, and I tried to construct this situation. Using only 13 of the most essential sequences, I cut the main character out of the image. Her seeming absence paradoxically made her image more present, and more than that: it became the only way to see deeper into the film. In order to make a view through the filmic space possible, I applied the motion and scale of the character to entire looping layers. By removing the temporal aspect of the story, individual scenes can interact simultaneously, as in the spectator's mind, or as a group of actors in a dressing room.
